No horse race and indeed few other
sporting events captivate media interest like the John Smith's
Grand National at Aintree. For 10 spellbinding |
|
minutes, millions of eyes in Britain and further afield watch the longest steeplechase
unfold. |
It is the event that tempts millions to have their one bet of the year
and the BBC television audience is habitually above 10 million with
over 700 million worldwide viewers. There is understandably huge
media interest in the John Smith's Grand National; from the moment the weights are
announced in February until the big race in early April. Working
with Aintree Racecourse, Racenews helps sustain
media interest in
the
build-up to the event. The release of entries and forfeits for the
race are coordinated by Racenews with comprehensive factfiles on each
of the 40 runners, including
biographies of horse, owner, trainers' and
jockey's produced prior
to the race. |
The acclaimed 100-page
glossy Aintree Media Guide containing comprehensive past results,
trainers and jockey's records, facts and figures is produced by
Racenews and published each February. No other European horse race can
boast such a comprehensive dedicated media guide. It was at the 1991
Grand National meeting that the Racenews Racecourse Service first
operated and since then it has grown.
Around 12 people
are involved in the Racenews Racecourse Service
at Aintree for five days in the run-up to and during the meeting. |
